It's no surprise that weather affects your mood, but if winter brings depression year-after-year, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) may be the culprit.

The first step to get help is a visit to your doctor. Plus, you can also try these easy tips from Greatist:

  1. Take a hike. Regardless of whether the sun is out or not, spending time in daylight is helpful! Try to get outside within 2 hours of waking up. 
  2. Enjoy complex carbohydrates (in moderation!). They can help maintain levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood. 
  3. Exercise regularly. Studies have shown that exercise reduces symptoms of depression. Try watching your favorite show at the gym instead of at home.
