COVID-19: IRS tax filing and payment deadlines now both pushed back 90 days
COVID-19: IRS tax filing and payment deadlines now both pushed back 90 days

As of March 20, 2020, the Treasury Department added a 90-day extension for both filing and paying taxes.

From the Treasury Secretary's Twitter account:

  • "we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties."

If you expect a refund, file now to get your money when the return is processed. Also from the Treasury Secretary's Twitter account:

  • "I encourage all taxpayers who may have tax refunds to file now to get your money."

Do not delay your payment just because you can. Filing and paying on time, if you can, remains the best option.
